Grand Opening a Success!

The Grand Opening on August 29, 2009 was a great success and milestone for the community! Members of the Library Board, Municipal Council, MPP John O’Toole, Garritano Bros., and Shoalts and Zaback Architects were among those helping to ‘unlock’ the new library. Traffic was heavy and the mood was upbeat as members of the community explored the new space and collections.

It would not have been possible without the hard and enthusiastic work of the Municipal Council, Library Board, Project Team, Municipal Staff, Library Staff and their families, community volunteers, donors and organizations, the architect, the contractors, and others. A huge thank you goes out to the community and all of those who helped to make the opening such a success!

The Clarington Public Library looks forward to continuing to serve the community in its new location for many years to come!

The big day is almost here! The construction crew and library staff are hard at work getting everything unpacked and ready for the Grand Opening this Saturday, August 29 at 10:30 a.m. Here are some new photos of the inside:

Everything is wrapping up on the construction of our new Newcastle Branch and preparation of the interior has begun to make is ready for opening at the end of the summer. Here are some new photos of the inside:

We’re really coming along now at the new Newastle Branch. The bulk of the construction is in the final days and we are looking forward to working on the interior of the library to install furniture and prepare for the opening at the end of August. Here are some recent photos:

The construction of the new library branch in Newcastle is really coming along! Here is a recent update from the Project Manager:

•    The ceiling drywall tape and compound is nearly finished and they are completing final sanding. Painters are expected during the week of April 20!
•    Ceramic wall tiles will start in the washroom areas shortly
•    Preparation for installation of flooring will start next week as well.
•    The parking lot has dried, the soils have been tested and the consultant has given us the verbal approval to proceed with placement of granular material. This will be done from the access driveway – Both churches have been advised
•    Not all of the glass in windows has been installed – some still outstanding.
•    HVAC venting is roughed in

Project Update – February 2009

The following is a quick update – these are positive milestones in the project!

brick layer on site – laying brick on east side
main entrance area is tarped in – with heaters for masons
aluminum window frames are being installed
some frames are complete on the north side
tracks being installed for the south side
east side closed in for brick layers
glass samples approved
HVAC – roof top units are in place
electrician installing receptacles and data boxes

The weather outside is frightful! Snow and cold have slowed things down somewhat, but work continues to progress at the Newcastle Library building site.

All windows and doors are taped
2 small heaters are working in the building
Main roof perimeter framing nearly complete
Framers working on fascias of sloped roof
Roofer has started on main roof
Roof deck at north end of canopy cut back to suit window
Drywallers working on bulkhead and ceiling layout
